What is it? A battery powered charger for mobile devices (cell phones,
iPods, etc.)
This product is pretty simple and straightforward concept, using 4 AA batteries
and a portable device’s own 12V car charger cable to recharge just about any
portable device that has a car charger available. The product features a
standard 12V DC socket. You must provide your own car charger cable.
For busy travelers, and those who tend to run down their batteries on their cell
phones and find it inconvenient if not impossible to recharge them from an AC
source, this product can both recharge as well as allow a user to begin to use
their device again immediately. Furthermore, it can also be used to extend talk
time on a cell phone (using it while connected) up to an additional 9 hours
beyond the phone’s normal capacity.
For our evaluation we took a Motorola Razor cell phone and allowed it to deplete
its battery down to the lowest level (where it begins to alarm that recharging
is necessary) before applying the product. We installed the included batteries
in the product, took our car charger cable and connected it, and immediately
observed the phone to begin its charging cycle (see video).
The instructions indicate that normal charging can be completed within an hour
for many devices, but charging time can vary by device, and charging a battery
that has run all the way down can take the longest amount of time. In our test,
we observed complete charging to take a little over two hours.
When the product isn’t being used for charging, it also has two LEDs on the
top that can be used as a flashlight. This might be helpful in case of
emergency.
